Over Thirty Years Behind the Bench

Craig trained at taxidermy school in northern Wisconsin and has been at it for over thirty years. Thousands of mounts later, the work still comes down to the same thing: getting it right. Whitetails, waterfowl, bass, black bears. Every species has its own anatomy, its own character, and every one deserves the time it takes to do it properly.

My work is guided by one principle: respect the animal. That means studying anatomy until I can close my eyes and see the muscle structure. It means choosing poses that reflect how the animal actually moved in life. It means never rushing a mount just to clear the shop.

Every animal that comes through my door earned its place on someone's wall. My job is to honor that harvest with work that holds up. Not just next season, but for generations.

How It Works

From Field to Finished Mount

Good taxidermy starts before the animal reaches the shop. Here's what to expect when you work with us.

Field Care

How you handle the animal in the field directly affects the quality of your mount. Keep it cool, avoid dragging it by the head or neck, and don't cut behind the shoulders if you want a shoulder mount. Cape the animal as soon as possible, or bring it to us whole and we'll handle it. The condition of the hide before it reaches the shop matters more than most people realize. How the animal was handled, the time of year, and the climate all play a role in how the hide tans. All tanning is accepted at the owner's risk. When in doubt, call us before you cut.

Drop-Off

Bring your animal to the shop frozen or fresh. We'll go over the condition together, discuss pose options, and answer any questions. You'll fill out a brief intake form with your contact information and any specific requests. A deposit is required at drop-off to secure your place in the queue.

The Work

Once your animal enters the workflow, we handle fleshing, tanning, mounting, and finishing. This is not assembly-line work. Each mount gets individual attention. Depending on the project and our current volume, this typically takes several months to a year. We don't rush quality.

Updates

We'll contact you if we have questions about your mount or if anything comes up during the process. You're welcome to call anytime to check on status. We'll reach out when your mount is nearing completion.

Pickup

When your mount is finished, we'll schedule a pickup time that works for you. We'll walk you through care instructions and make sure you're satisfied with the work. Final payment is due at pickup. We can arrange shipping for out-of-area customers.

Pricing

Every animal and project is different. Call for pricing. We provide quotes after inspecting the animal. Our prices reflect the quality of materials we use and the time we invest in each piece.

Payment: Cash or check only. No cards, no PayPal, no Venmo.

Turnaround Times

Turnaround depends on the time of year and the type of mount. During deer season, we focus on deer heads all winter. Each customer is given a specific month for completion.

We work on a first-in, first-out basis. Rush services are not available. Every customer deserves the same level of attention.

Deposits & Policies

A 50% deposit is required on all orders. Deposits not paid within 90 days of invoice mean the specimen becomes property of the shop.

The shop is not responsible for losses due to fire, theft, damage in tanning, loss in transit, tornado, or other natural disaster. All tanning is accepted at owner's risk. Due to factors outside our control (handling in the field, time of year, climate, condition of the hide before drop-off), no guarantees can be made on tanning results.

The shop reserves the right to adjust position on any mount if necessary. Customer signature at drop-off confirms the specimen was legally taken.

Keep it cold. If you can't get to us within 24 hours, freeze it. For deer and big game, don't cut behind the front shoulders. Leave plenty of hide for the mount. Avoid dragging by the head or antlers. All tanning is accepted at the owner's risk because field handling, time of year, and climate are outside our control. If you're unsure about anything, call us from the field and we'll walk you through it.
Yes. We work with hunters from across the country. Animals can be shipped frozen to our shop, or you can coordinate drop-off if you're passing through the area. Contact us ahead of time so we can provide shipping instructions.
Keep all harvest tags, licenses, and any required permits with the animal. For certain species (migratory birds, some furbearers), federal or state documentation is required by law. We cannot accept illegally harvested animals.

Absolutely. We'll discuss pose options at drop-off: head turn, angle, expression. We can show you examples and make recommendations based on the animal and where you plan to display it.
Keep it out of direct sunlight, which fades hide and feathers over time. Avoid high-humidity areas like bathrooms or unfinished basements. Dust occasionally with a soft brush or compressed air. Don't use household cleaners. With proper care, a quality mount lasts generations.
Yes. We can repair damage, replace eyes, touch up paint, and restore older mounts. Some pieces can be fully remounted on new forms. Bring it in and we'll assess what's possible.

Drop-Off Instructions

Bring your animal frozen or fresh during shop hours. Pull around to the side entrance and ring the bell. We'll inspect the animal together and complete the paperwork on the spot. Plan for about 15-20 minutes.

If you need to drop off after hours, call ahead to arrange a time.
